The traditional way of testing for some of the sleep disorders is changing. With the availability of the more convenient, less expensive and more affordable home sleep studies, the traditional in the lab sleep studies are getting extinct. Many sleep centers have closed down due to insurances mandating home sleep studies as opposed to in lab sleep studies.

How is home sleep study performed?
At W8MD weight loss, sleep and medspa centers, you come in to consult with one of our sleep physicians who will go over your sleep history, do a physical and determine if you need a home sleep study. If it was determined that you can benefit from a home sleep study, then the physician will order a home sleep study which will be performed at your home. The staff at W8MD will provide the instructions on how to use the equipment and how to return it back to the clinic after the sleep study so the staff can download the information for doctors to review. Once the sleep doctor reviews your sleep study, you will be asked to return for a result review visit.
What is the cost of home sleep study?
Although the cost varies from center to center, at W8MD, our self pay discounted home sleep study cost is only $300.00 per night, and we typically recommend a two night study. If you do the two night study, we do both nights for only $500.00 per night for self pay patients.
Does my insurance cover home sleep study?
If you have insurance, then they might cover the home sleep studies.
Where can I find a sleep clinic or center that offers home sleep studies?
Most W8MD centers offer home studies.
Are the home sleep studies as accurate to determine if I have sleep apnea?
Studies have shown that home sleep studies are atleast as good and reliable as in lab sleep studies when it comes to sleep apnea.
Can home sleep studies be used to diagnose other sleep disorders such as Narcolepsy?
No. Narcolepsy requires an in lab sleep study called Polysomnograph followed by an Multiple Sleep Latency Test(MSLT) to properly diagnose narcolepsy.
How long does it take to do a home sleep study and get the results?
At most W8MD centers, we can do the sleep studies and get the results within 1-2 weeks although some of the hospital based sleep centers can take up to 3 months to do the sleep studies.
