Triglycerides are a type of fat in the blood. Triglycerides contribute to plaque formation and thickening of the arteries which increases the risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Triglycerides are measured along with cholesterol as part of a blood test. Normal triglyceride levels are below 150 mg/dL. Levels above 200 mg/dL are high.
