In October 2022, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Mounjaro, a diabetes drug, a fast-track designation for weight loss, leading to speculation that it will be approved for weight loss use this year due to its promising results in clinical trials.

[[Mounjaro]], also known by its generic name tirzepatide, is a weekly injection that helps control blood sugar levels and was approved for use in treating type 2 diabetes by the FDA in May 2022. Distinguished from drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy, Mounjaro is a combination of a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, used for diabetes and weight loss treatment, and a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), a hormone that aids insulin release after eating.
