Biliopancreatic diversion is a type of weight loss surgery that involves the removal of a portion of the stomach and the rerouting of the small intestine. This procedure restricts the amount of food that can be eaten and reduces the amount of calories that are absorbed by the body. Biliopancreatic diversion is usually recommended for individuals who are severely obese and have not been able to lose weight through diet and exercise. This procedure has a higher risk of complications than other weight loss surgeries and requires lifelong medical monitoring and nutritional supplements.
