Blood cholesterol refers to the amount of cholesterol present in the blood. Cholesterol is a waxy substance that is essential for the production of hormones, vitamin D, and other important functions. However, high levels of cholesterol in the blood can lead to the buildup of plaque in the arteries, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke.
