Renal failure, also known as kidney failure, is a condition in which the kidneys are no longer able to function properly. Renal failure can be acute, meaning that it occurs suddenly, or chronic, meaning that it develops gradually over time. Renal failure can have a number of causes, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and other medical conditions. Treatment for renal failure may include lifestyle changes like dietary modifications, medication, dialysis, or in some cases, kidney transplantation.
