The appendix (or vermiform appendix; also cecal appendix; vermix; or vermiform process) is a finger-like, blind-ended tube that develops from the cecum in the embryo. At the junction of the small and large intestines, the cecum is a pouch-like structure of the colon. Vermiform is derived from latin and means "Worm-shaped." the appendix was once regarded as a vestigial organ, but this perception has changed in recent decades.
