Breast is one of two prominences located in the upper ventral region of the torso of primates. It serves as the mammary gland in females, which produces and secretes milk to nourish infants. Males and females develop breasts from the identical embryological tissues. Together with growth hormone, estrogens cause breast development in female humans and, to a lesser extent, in other primates during puberty. Generally, breast development in other primate females only occurs during pregnancy.
