HDL (high-density lipoprotein) is also known as "good" cholesterol because it helps to remove excess cholesterol from your bloodstream and transport it back to your liver for disposal. Higher levels of HDL are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, while low levels of HDL have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease.
