Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a condition in which the force of the blood against the walls of the arteries is too high. This increased pressure can damage the blood vessels, leading to the formation of plaque, which can block the flow of blood to the heart. Over time, this can lead to heart disease, heart attack, or stroke. Hypertension is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke, and is often associated with other risk factors, such as obesity, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity.
