India, officially known as the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. With a population of over 1.3 billion people, it is the second-most populous country in the world, and it is also the seventh-largest country by area. India is known for its rich history, diverse culture, and vibrant cuisine. It has a diverse landscape, with the Himalayas in the north, the Thar Desert in the west, and the Indian Ocean to the south.
Geography
- India is located in South Asia and is bordered by Pakistan to the northwest, China and Nepal to the north, Bhutan to the northeast, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. The country is also surrounded by the Indian Ocean to the south, the Arabian Sea to the west, and the Bay of Bengal to the east.
- India has a diverse landscape, with the Himalayan mountain range to the north, which includes some of the highest peaks in the world, including Mount Everest. History

The British East India Company began trading in India in the 17th century and eventually gained control of most of the country in the 19th century. India gained independence from British rule in 1947 and became a republic in 1950.

- India is a federal parliamentary democratic republic, with a president serving as the head of state and a prime minister serving as the head of government. The country has a bicameral legislature, consisting of the Rajya Sabha
