Non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder (n24swd) is a condition in which an individual's sleep-wake cycle does not align with the 24-hour day. This can result in a persistent pattern of late bedtimes and late wake-ups, which can lead to difficulty falling asleep, staying awake during the day, and functioning at work or school. N24swd is most commonly seen in individuals who are blind or have limited vision, as they do not receive adequate light exposure to regulate their circadian rhythm. Polysomnographic technologists can help diagnose n24swd by conducting sleep studies and evaluating the individual's sleep-wake cycle.
