- Weight loss can be challenging, and for some people, traditional methods such as diet and exercise may not be effective. In these cases, weight loss medications and bariatric surgery may be recommended. Keystone Mercy offers coverage for both of these weight loss treatments.
- Keystone Mercy’s coverage for weight loss medications and bariatric surgery is subject to certain criteria and limitations. For weight loss medications, Keystone Mercy requires prior authorization from a healthcare provider. The medication must be FDA-approved for weight loss and prescribed for the treatment of obesity. Keystone Mercy may also require evidence of a BMI over 30, or over 27 with comorbidities.
- For bariatric surgery, Keystone Mercy covers both gastric bypass and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) procedures. However, Keystone Mercy requires prior authorization from a healthcare provider and may require evidence of a BMI over 40, or over 35 with comorbidities.
