* AMDR refers to the range of intake of a particular nutrient that is associated with reduced risk of chronic disease while providing enough essential nutrients. In other words, it is the range of macronutrients that is considered safe and healthy for most individuals. The ranges were developed by the IOM and are based on a review of the scientific literature.
==Purpose of AMDR==
* The purpose of AMDR is to provide guidelines for individuals to consume a balanced diet that meets their nutritional needs while reducing their risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, [[diabetes]], and  [[obesity]]. The guidelines are designed to help individuals make informed food choices and maintain a healthy weight by ensuring they consume the right amounts of carbohydrates, [[protein]], and  [[fat]].
==Recommended Proportions of Macronutrients for Different Age Groups==
* The recommended proportions of macronutrients for different age groups are as follows:
* Infants (0-6 months): No AMDR established
* Infants (6-12 months): Carbohydrates: 40-60% of total calories, Fat: 30-40% of total calories, Protein: 10-20% of total calories
* Children (1-3 years): Carbohydrates: 45-65% of total calories, Fat: 30-40% of total calories, Protein: 5-20% of total calories
* Children (4-18 years): Carbohydrates: 45-65% of total calories, Fat: 25-35% of total calories, Protein: 10-30% of total calories
* Adults (19 years and older): Carbohydrates: 45-65% of total calories, Fat: 20-35% of total calories, Protein: 10-35% of total calories
* The recommended proportions of macronutrients for adults are further divided into subgroups, such as pregnant women and individuals with certain medical conditions, to provide more specific guidance.
